2017 Summer Ball FAQ

When Does the Summer Ball Season Start and Finish?

Summer Ball for Mustang, Bronco, and Pony starts in Late June. Some teams/communities are ready to go as early as Mid-June, while others won’t start until after the 4th of July. We can accommodate whatever it is your team/community is looking for. Summer Ball will run through all of July, with a season ending tournament that trickles into the first days of August.

What are the Age Groups for Summer Ball?

Our age groups are broken up by school grade, based on the 2016-2017 school year.

Mustang – 3rd/4th Grade
Bronco – 5th/6th Grade
Pony – 7th/8th Grade
*We also have Colt, Palomino, and Thorobred age groups for older kids.

Is this a Travel or All-Star League?

This is certainly not a ‘travel’ league. It is far from it. It is house-league level of play and is an extension of the Spring House League season.

Can My Spring League Team Continue Playing?

Absolutely! If you want to continue playing with your same house league team, you can. If you want to add a player or two, that’s also fine. Just work that out with your local community.

Can Travel Players Play in the League?

Yes. However, we have some specifications for Travel kids. Travel level 4th graders must play UP at the Bronco level. Travel level 6th graders must play UP at the Pony level.

How many Games Will We Play?

Our Summer Ball season is a base-10 game season at the Mustang and Bronco level, and a 12-game season for Pony. However, we have some teams looking to play more games, and that is perfectly fine. It is an unbalanced schedule and you could play several more games if you’d like to.

What Days of the Week will we play?

We generally will play 1-weekday and 1-weekend at the younger groups. However, days of the week vary, as some teams cannot play Fridays/Saturdays, and if we have an odd-number of teams, this will get thrown off. Some teams will want to play additional games as well. If your team/community wants to ONLY play on specific days of the week, we can accommodate. During the Dog Days of Summer, we try to schedule a few 7pm night games, especially at the Pony level, whenever possible.

What if we don’t have a home field during the Summer?

Generally speaking, we can accommodate this. You will play all ‘away’ games, or home games at neutral diamonds. Your community will still be responsible to provide an umpire for half your games.

How Much Does it Cost to Play?

FREE – as with all of our Leagues, there is no cost to play Summer Ball. Home teams/communities provide their own home fields, umpires, and game balls.

2016 NSYBA Fall Baseball

Fall Ball is just around the corner and we are now taking registrations from teams and communities. Individual players should register at their respective communities. If your home community is not sponsoring a Fall Ball team in the NSYBA, we will have individual registration open soon and you will be placed on a team. Fall Ball is the transition season where kids now move up to the next level of play. This year for the Fall season, we are looking to have 6 age groups.

Pinto – 1st/2nd grade
Mustang – 3rd/4th grade
Bronco – 5th/6th grade
Pony – 7th/8th/9th* grade
Colt – 9th*/10th/11th grade
Palomino – 12th grade and up

The NSYBA uses school grades to determine age brackets. School grades for Fall Ball are based on the 2016-2017 School Year.

In recent years, we have regularly had teams at the various age groups from Park Ridge, Skokie, Evanston, Wilmette, Winnetka, Glencoe, Highland Park, Oriole Park, Norwood Park, and other neighboring towns in the north suburbs, northwest suburbs, and north part of Chicago.

The level of play for Fall Baseball is House/Travel. Teams have a mixture of house and travel level players across all teams and it is a competitive league. However, we usually do not allow full-time travel teams to participate in our Fall Ball program for the Mustang, Bronco, or Pony ages. For these travel teams, we highly recommend signing up for the Glenview Fall Ball League, which is a fantastic league for travel teams on some of the best fields in the area.

*For kids entering 9th grade, they have the option to play either Colt or Pony during the Fall. The NSYBA recommends that all kids from the Spring that played on 14a level travel teams participate in the Colt League. All other incoming 9th graders are encouraged to play at the Pony level.

Community or Team reps, if you are interested in entering teams, please contact Mases Hagopian. For all questions or concerns, contact Mases at mases26@gmail.com or 847-899-2864.

Colt begins the first weekend of June and runs through all of June and July, concluding with an end of season tournament.

Mustang, Bronco, and Pony begin the last week of June and run through all of July, with a tournament concluding in the first days of August.

Individual players can Register Online. While the NSYBA doesn’t form teams, filling out the online form will assure you are placed on a team in a participating community.

For Mustang, Bronco, and Pony, we regularly have participating communities from Evanston, Skokie, Wilmette, Winnetka, Glencoe, Highland Park, Deerfield, Glenview, and other neighboring towns.

For the Colt League, we have three divisions that are divided geographically. A North division with teams from Deerfield, Northbrook, Winnetka, and Glenview. 2014 Fall Champions: Bensenville Bison

Bensenville-Bison

Congratulations to the Bensenville Bison on winning the annual Fall Ball Tournament. After compiling an impressive 9-3-1 regular season record, Bensenville won 4 tournament games to take the championship. After smooth sailing in the first two rounds vs Park Ridge Black and the Evanston Cubs, Bensenville then had a come from behind win in the semi-finals game against Skokie Indians Black. This setup a championship game against Skokie Indians Blue, who had a regular season record of 7-2-1. After falling behind early in the game, Bensenville rallied in route to an 8-4 victory. Great job Bison!
